Dr. Young-Suk Grace Kim is a Professor in the School of Education at the University of California, Irvine, where her research focuses on language and literacy development and effective instruction for children from diverse backgrounds. A former classroom teacher in San Francisco, she examines reading comprehension, reading fluency, listening comprehension and oral language, dyslexia, written composition, and reading-writing relationships. Her work spans both monolingual and multilingual learners from a variety of linguistic backgrounds, helping shape evidence-based literacy instruction that supports all students.
An internationally recognized literacy researcher, Dr. Kim has led groundbreaking work supported by more than $65 million in federal research grants from the Institute of Education Sciences, the U.S. Department of Education, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the National Science Foundation. She is an American Educational Research Association (AERA) Fellow and has received numerous honors, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). We are excited to welcome Dr. Kim as the keynote speaker for our quarterly meeting, where she will share insights from her research to support educators and leaders committed to advancing literacy outcomes.
