Mija Trammell
Assistant Director,
University of Akron Center for Structured Literacy
In what specific ways has your incentive grant advanced your institution’s literacy goals?
The Ohio Deans Compact incentive grants have helped unify our faculty in their understanding of the Science of Reading and writing, support partner districts in their shifts to the science of reading, and connected us with other IHE’s engaged in this work.
What measurable impact have you observed so far?
Our preliminary work with early P20 incentive grants set us up to be prepared when the opportunity arose to open our Center. We have also seen partner districts continue the work we started with them and reach out for continued support and training.
What excites you most about the Compact’s literacy work?
What excites me most about the Compact’s literacy work can be summed up in the words conscious collaboration. For work as important as this, we need great research, great minds, and great teams. The Ohio Deans Compact has been a bridge for each of these – connecting us with nationally recognized experts and other IHEs passionate about the work.
